Biography

Soprano Marion Germain was born (1996) in Quebec City. She earned her college diploma in music – musical theater profile at Cégep de Sainte-Foy in Quebec City. During her two years in this program, she participated in the chorus of André Messager's operetta Véronique and landed the role of Fleur de Lys in Luc Plamondon's musical Notre-Dame de Paris. The soprano also played the lead role of Satine in the musical Moulin Rouge! presented at the Maison Jaune in Quebec. Additionally, during the summer of 2015, she was recruited to play the role of Hélène in the youth opera Arthur by Nathalie Magnan, presented as part of the Quebec Opera Festival. In August 2015, she was asked by the Cégep de Sainte-Foy to be part of the operetta La Fille de madame Angot by Charles Lecocq, in which she played the lead role of Mademoiselle Lange.

Marion completed her Bachelor of Music – Classical Voice Performance at the University of Montreal in the winter of 2022 under Monique Pagé and Richard Margison. She also earned a Master's degree in Classical Vocal Performance from the UofM in the winter of 2024. Marion has been taking lessons for seven years with the famous soprano Lyne Fortin.

At UofM, she was able to participate in the Opera Atelier as a chorus member from fall 2019 to winter 2020. In fall 2021, Marion participated in the Opera Atelier as a soloist in the Gala A Night at the Opera presented at the Claude-Champagne Hall at University of Montreal. She received the George Cédric-Ferguson scholarship in the fall of 2021 during her audition for the Opera Atelier at UofM. Marion is the recipient of several awards totaling $1,000 as part of the Concours d’Art Lyrique de la Relève Musicale (CALRM). She received the Louise Roy scholarship worth $4,000 in the fall of 2022.

In the winter of 2022, the soprano landed the lead role in the opera Quiet Night Thoughts (Amichai Ben Shalev) from the Nouvel Opéra project under the direction of Jean-Michaël Lavoie and Ana Sokolovic. The soprano also performed the roles of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème as part of the 2022 Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival.

In the fall of 2023, she played the role of Mother in Downstream (Amichai Ben Shalev) as part of the OpéRA de Poche project in partnership with the Opéra de Montréal. In the winter of 2023, Marion sang the role of Rosalinde in Strauss II's Die Fledermaus at the Université de Montréal. In July 2023, Marion sang the role of Violetta Valéry in Verdi's La traviata and doubled as Lucia in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (MOSF 2023). In March 2024, she sang the role of Die Königin der Nacht in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the University of Montreal.

Marion made her debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in March 2024 in the role of Contessa di Ceprano in Verdi's Rigoletto. She also sang the role of one of Sechs Mädchen in the opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny by Kurt Weill with the Staatsoper Stuttgart for the premiere in 2024 and for its revival in 2025. In March 2025, Marion played the role of Gertrude in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel at the University of Montreal. The soprano has a good knowledge of German, with a B2 level from the Goethe Institute.
